seriously? an 8-year-old boy in arizona has been charged with two counts of premeditated murder in the deaths of his father and another man. i see all kinds of problems with this case — first, how do you prove intent and premeditation in one so young? current research is suggesting that human brains aren’t fully developed until individuals are in their twenties, let alone double-digits. can we really hold an 8-year-old fully responsible for this kind of crime? second, police apparently questioned the boy without parents or legal representatives present. assuming he did confess, how much is this confession worth? wouldn’t anyone be terrified and overwhelmed under these terrible circumstances? this case will be interesting to watch as it will test the boundaries of our beliefs about kids, crime, and the juvenile justice system. stay tuned.

Columbine happened. That does not mean every third grade 8 year old child wants to kill just because he knows how to use a gun. If we believe their story that he confessed to murder, especially after their obvious leading of the impressionable boy during their interrogation, we must have become very disillusioned as a society. It is wrong to allow law enforcement officials to abuse their authority in this manner. It is a blatant outrage what they are doing to this child.

It appears some of the "talking heads" in the media are giving opinions and trying to make the public believe that their are "facts".
1. A suspect can be questioned without benefit of "Miranda" if he's not in custody (like a witness)
2. What is so outrages about asking someone to tell the truth?
3. When a confession is obtained it must match the physical evidence
4. We've had 8 year olds trying to kill police officers, so unless you personally know the 8 year old you have no idea what's in his head.
5. Think of him as an individual, don't lump him in with all 8 year olds.
6. I think a responsible "talking heads" should preface his/her remarks with "In my opinion" since I don't have all the facts.
7. I wonder if this child was subjected to sexual abuse would the "talking heads" have the same opinion?
Thank You...BR
