We are looking to make teaching TSP a home for lists of useful films, documentaries, memoirs, and books of fiction to be used when teaching sociology (see our post onĀ Sport and Society Films).
If you have a request for a specific topic or course, let us know in the comments. And, if you have a list to share, definitely let us know in the comments.

Hi Kyle,
The Eel is an excellent film with many sociological themes. (Film info here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120408/). Long time ago I wrote an essay about the film, applying concepts from DuBois, Merton, and Hirschi. Goffman (stigma)can be applied too. Hi Todd,
Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds like it would be great for a social theory course.

I'm a sociologist in Canada (sessional) teaching a first year developmental psychology course in the Winter term for the first time, Families Across the Lifespan. I'm using Jeffrey Arnett's Human Development: A Cultural Approach. Each chapter has sections on physical, cognitive and emotional & social development from birth to late adulthood. I'd love to show lots of video bits and short film. I haven't started looking yet, so if you have any you absolutely love - throw 'em at me!

Hi Kyle,
Great idea! I recently became aware of this great resource for sociological documentaries:

I'd love to see a list of law/crime/deviance-related films and documentaries folks have used in their courses, and I could definitely get the list kicked off.

Hi Sarah! I think you'll find lots of good suggestions for LCD films in the comments on this piece: http://thesocietypages.org/specials/documentaries/
I particularly love The Dhamma Brothers, The Road from Crime, and Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo.
