Amber Joy Powell

Amber Joy is a second-year PhD student in sociology at the University of Minnesota. Her current research interests include crime, punishment, victimization, and the intersectionalities of race and gender. More specifically, she focuses on institutional responses to sexual violence. Her past work draws on ethnographic observations to study how legal actors construct narratives of credibility in child sexual assault jury trials. She is currently investigating university responses to sexual violence, especially regarding Black and Latinx students.
