Some people (like me) find cities feed off the energy and vitality of cities. Others (most of my students, I think) find it chaotic and exhausting. It strikes me that different people might "read" the physical space of CBGB's very differently. To me, the graffiti, posters, and stickers read as evidence of community, identity, and that somebody's having a good time. But I could see how others might find it gross, off-putting, or even intimidating.
