What a great thing America is doing.
One of the aspects of life in this country I've always found appealing is our view regarding the rights of individuals. We trample on them enough to frustrate the most patient of us, but we have an unwavering belief in the general concept and sometimes is shines through in unexpected ways.

That second chart is lovely, but confusing. It seems to suggest New Zealand has had same-sex marriage for a long time. We only got it last year. Same-sex civil unions are older, yes, but don't have all the legal rights conferred by marriage. Couples in civil unions are not able to adopt.

hold on. Utah has same sex marriage? Am I reading that right? Having grown up around casually rascist homophobic mormons of eastern nevada / western utah that is causing a lot of cognitive dissonance for me.
