If you’re looking for just one image that says a thousand words about what’s wrong with America, here’s a contender. It is a screenshot of the website for the Silver State Schools Credit Union:
Yep, it’s an invitation to K-12 teachers to go into debt to do their job.
Speechless.

This has been going on for a long time. Fortunately I did not teach elementary, but middle and high school (before moving to community college) and I simply refused to spend my own money on educational supplies. I started teaching in 1972.

I searched for "Classroom Supply Loan". The list of banks and (usually) credit unions that offer these loans is extensive. In fact, what seems unusual about this one is the interest rate. Most credit unions seem to offer these loans at 0% interest.
But going into personal debt to cultivate children is a lot like getting an business write-off for cultivating a client, right?

Do you know what the solution is? Ignore the email. It's not like the email has an attached gun that is pointing to a teacher's head.

What's "wrong with America" is not this "evil" loan company (which Lisa Wade's piece implied). What's wrong is that a school does not have adequate school supplies. But, that's a completely separate political problem of education funding (despite the fact that spending on education over the last 30 years has vastly exceeded inflation).

Teachers have enough on their plate, and they shouldn't have the burden of school supplies on their meager salary. This is shameful.
Kathy Posey — January 9, 2014
Many of the supplies I provided for my child was often half used. What has astonded me is how more and more supplies are needed each year. Teachers shouldn't be responsible for supplies needed, but at the same time the request of supplies to partcipate in the school work is outlandish.

The California Credit Union, here in Southern California, does the same. https://www.californiacu.org/default.aspx?v=e9bc3cc2-cb22-4541-94d6-f040f4f2e6b2 But at least their supply loan is 0% interest. However, if you need help paying for your credential, that'll be 6%.

Schools need to re prioritize where they are spending money. Sorry you dont need a new consession stand or football field (recently a few I have seen) at the small tax payers expense of 750k for the stand and over a million for a football field and bleechers. Please my kids go to school to get educated

Hold the outrage for a minute and look a little deeper. This isn't a predatory lender like JPM or BOA it's a member run credit union and the loan rate is less than 2%. This practically free money loan deal most likely came from and was approved by the members or their member run board of directors.

Teachers have been doing this forever because they love to teach and love their kids. Give them more materials and lots of teachers will still want to buy stuff for their kids. No big deal.

Choosing the correct credit organization is difficult. The most essential thing is to have a cheap loan interest rate. You may acquire a good loan with the aid of this app that borrows money instantly and self-employed persons can also apply. I've been utilizing this company's services for a long time since they offer the best terms for me.

My recommendation regarding equipment financing https://www.gofundshop.com/equipment-financing/ is to explore alternative options that can alleviate the financial burden on teachers, such as increasing funding for schools to ensure they have sufficient resources, or establishing partnerships with local businesses or organizations that can donate or provide discounted equipment. Additionally, advocating for policy changes that prioritize education funding can help address the issue of inadequate school supplies.
