This interesting data from the New York Times suggests that Americans are largely confused about what the hell politicians are trying to do with health care, but they really do want a public option:

I don't see the contradiction here. The Times headline did not say that the public was "wary" of a public option. It said they were wary of Obama. 55% of those polled say that Obama has not clearly explained his goals and 59% find the reforms confusing.

I'm 100% for a public option--nay, nothing but the public, because insurance companies are evil and should be put out of business, but I'm still worried about what Obama will do. Not saying that the Times wasn't editorializing, but they aren't mutually exclusive.
I'm really disappointed with the questions for the elderly and illegal immigrants. Are people so filled with talking points that they really think the government would refuse to provide care for elderly people?

I agree with Jesse and Nataly. Obama since he hasn't come out very strongly in favor of it, nor has he explained how he would like it to work, so it actually makes a lot of sense to support a public option and be wary of Obama.
