A few times on SocImages we’ve been tickled to highlight instances of very young children performing adult behavior. In each (adorable) case, they were great examples of how children learn how to a culturally intelligible adult and particular kinds of ones at that.
Our favorites include the baby worshipper, baby preacher, baby Beyonce, baby rapper, and babies learn how to have a conversation. Seriously. Click on every single one of those links. You won’t be disappointed.
This one is of a little girl in a Baptist church in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan mimicking a choir conductor. It’s fantastic.
I’m sure you’ll have your own favorite thing about it, but mine is her intensity. Maybe it’s an indication of just how seriously she takes learning. At one time, and in a different way in the modern world, learning to copy adults was a matter of life or death. This must be part of what it means to be a human child even today.
But it may also be part of the mimicry. Conducting tends to be a pretty serious business. Maybe she’s just performing seriousness as part of the game, like her heartfelt facial expressions.
Either way, it’s a pretty impressive performance and a wonderful example of children’s active involvement in their own socialization.

Hey, just want to say the link to "babies learn how to have a conversation" goes to the same address as "baby worshipper", and this sentence is missing some words: "In each (adorable) case, they were great examples of how children learn how to a culturally intelligible adult and particular kinds of ones at that."

Cute.
Imitation and practice are essentials of learning. But it is also incumbent on both teacher and student to recognize that practice does not make perfect. Instead, perfect practice makes perfect. Dissecting the mistake, correcting it, practicing the corrected version; all this is required to master.
I wonder if parents know this.

I’m considering an unassisted home birth solely because we are working class Americans. We don’t qualify for government aid, but don’t make enough to pay for basic care…and we pay over 500 USD a month for health insurance. Before everyone jumps us about not caring about our child or my health, please understand how desperate we are. We’ve tried to budget, we tried to save before pregnancy, but we got pregnant when I had a medication change. I considered abortion without my family because we couldn’t afford a child, but I knew it would devastate my husband if he ever found out. I decided to keep the child, but knew we would struggle to pay for him or her. If anyone wants to know the state of the American working class, here it is. Women in America, married and both spouses working 40+ hours a week, paying over 500 bucks a month for insurance, are considering the option of dying in childbirth because of the potential bankruptcy/financial ruin of childbirth here. I remember crying I. The steps of our house because we have no heat and we learned baby would be born in February. When asked what to do from other Americans in the same social class…the answer was try to use a space heater (expensive to run) and wrap the baby in bunting. America is not the land of opportunity anymore.baby gate reviews

Thank you so much for this post. I’m 10 weeks now and struggling with not feeling completely bonded yet. I just got to hear baby’s heartbeat and see baby wiggle in my belly and that was amazing. Made it seem more real. Still learning to be ok with my feelings. For more visit vakn.com

Some babies did not want to sleep because they want to play and such babies are full of intention with other things. The reason is that parents should provide everything which feels them comfortable and in this able they able to sleep. But this source of information is very helpful.double banister baby gate
