A new Pew Research Center report reveals the rising use of the Internet as a news source in the U.S.:
The Internet is the most frequently reported source of news for adults under 30, but it’s relevance is rising in all categories:
In addition to younger people, people who are more educated, have higher incomes, and live in the West are also more likely to use Internet as a source of news. See the full press release here.

I think it's very important to remember that these data are about the *transmission* method, not necessarily the medium. With the exception of some interactive features unique to the medium, the Internet is primarily the written word (i.e., like newspapers/magazines) and on-demand video (i.e., like TV).
My point is not to comment on the demographic/socioeconomic differences -- I think these are very revealing and problematic in many ways -- but my point is that the *way* someone gets their news information is very similar. The decline in reading news on paper is taken up by reading news on a computer screen/mobile device... and, in many cases, from the exact same news sources. Similarly, the decline in watching the Six o'Clock news is taken up by watching video on the internet... and, again, many times from the same sources.
What would be more interesting to me would be to see from *where* the news is sourced. Have news sources become more diverse? For example, I live in New York City.... so a decade ago I would read my "local" paper from the newsstand. The New York Times or The New York Post or whatever. NOW, I read articles from the NYTimes and the LA Time and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and The Guardian (London) and so on. BUT they are all newspapers. Just on my computer screen.

Any ideas about why there's a dip in 09, but then it goes back up in 2010 for most of the age groups? Is it just that 2009 wasn't an election year, but 2008 and 2010 were, so more people were looking at news/more sources of news?

I must live in a bubble because pretty much no one I know has TV, just about everyone I know is an NPR junkie, we all spend way too much time online, and I'm 30-49.
(Yes, I do know that my circle is made up of a bunch of overeducated, underemployed hippies...)

You actually make it seem really easy along with your presentation however I find this topic to be actually one thing that I feel I would by no means understand. It kind of feels too complicated and very broad for me. I'm having a look forward in your next publish, I will attempt to get the grasp of it!|
