Amy Poehler, Sarah Silverman, Julie Lewis-Dreyfus Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Christina Applegate, Jane Krakowski, and Mary Louise-Parker candidly discuss getting older in Hollywood. The discussion starts about about 1:00. It’s not particularly organized, but it’s nice to hear perspectives from the inside:

ouch, there's a comment on getting older in Hollywood...isn't her name Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, not Julie Lewis-Dreyfuss?

What I find interesting is how perfectly monotone each actress' hair is. Obviously dyed and overly glossed to keep out the imperfections.

I'm really confused by this. We don't want society to be preoccupied and obsessed with the young ingenue but we all still want to be the young ingenue. Wouldn't the ideal situation be that we value women and men at every stage of life. Doesn't Julia have more money than god? Couldn't these women pool their money and create some entertainment (movies, sitcoms) that have women and girls of all ages in fantastic, empowered roles?

When I read your comment, my first reaction was admittedly to smile at such a sweet but lofty notion. Then I remembered that there is just such a thing for positive lesbian representation in films, called Power Up.

I'm interested in the movie they talked about near the end. A man is 'raped' by the 'hag' next door and goes home and throws up? How much you wanna bet that he's more traumatized by her appearance than the actual rape? Does he report it to the police? Of course, it would be to embarrassing for a man to admit to being raped, because ugly women are the only ones who rape, and all sex is good sex, right? Oh crap, the rage is boiling inside me...
