This is hilarious, because I was just at Borders and almost took a photo of the "Gifts for Dads" table, which solely featured books about beef, BBQ and grilling.
Because, you know, real men NEED meat.

A few years ago, I was working in a greeting card shop / gift store, where every father's day we'd get a shipment of fathers'day cards/gifts.
Trying to find something in there for my non-sporty, vegetarian father was virtually impossible: almost every card featured grilling, golfing, fishing, sports, cars, or televisions. None of which he is a fan of, obviously.

I always find these father's day gift giving guides a little weird. I have a dad who likes reading and science and hiking, not one who grills meat and watches sports. There's just no resonance with my experience.

And if you look at HowStuffWorks, you'll see... hardware related stuff!

So is this the male equivalent of cupcakes and ironing boards?

Yeah, the restaurant we had brunch at yesterday had a "father's day prix fix" where you could choose from steak or hamburger for your main course. Neat.

This picture immediately brought to mind the picture of the woman sectioned into pieces like cows for their cuts.

It's the cover of "The Sexual Politics of Meat" by Carol J. Adams, vegan feminist. "The Pornography of Meat" also goes into sexist advertising and food -- women for consumption.

I saw a hilarious card on Etsy parodying the prevasiveness of these stereotypes in Father's Day greeting cards. On the front it said "Ties, power tools, beef jerky, and beer." On the inside it said "Happy Father's Day."

The Sexual Politics of Meat is exactly what I thought of too, Strix!

Canaduck, some pictures are indelible! What an eyeopener that book was. Nice site you have ;^)
