Eva M. sent in an image (found here) of a Beauty Smile Trainer:
Presumably you’re supposed to wear it regularly to train yourself to smile the big, wide smiles needed to win beauty contests. It’s another example of how we no longer think of beauty as something “natural,” but rather as something that you get through products, training, and, if necessary, surgery. I guess you can wear this along with your teeth-whitening treatments to get the perfect smile.
Thanks, Eva M.!

Yep, seen these here in Japan... Many different smile/beauty related products. Also many products meant to make your fingers thinner... or your mouth "fit". And face bras and such. When I first saw the isles for this kind of stuff I felt very disturbed. It's the part of the Japanese culture I don't want to participate in.

It's really obvious -- to me anyway -- when a smile is fake as plastic. And I don't understand why I need to see your molars when you smile. I'd rather see someone smile naturally than to show me what they had for lunch.
This is more and more apparent every year. It seems to me smiles are being homogenized. Smiles are individual but, of late, everyone seems to be smiling the same or attempting to smile the same. I see this on the Christmas cards I've been getting this year. More and more of the kids have the same toothy smile which doesn't reach there eyes and is so (obviously) not how they normally show their glee.

Maybe it will be easier to sell these given the economic situation.
Here in Ontario, Canada, cheaper alcohol apparently is selling more than in the past (while more expensive liquor apparently isn't selling as well).

By the way -
Note that a female with 'white' features is on the box to promote this product --

T B -- I was just about to point that out. There's some interesting cross-cultural stuff going on here. Was she the best model for the job? Are European/American/white smiles seen as better? Is it the same kind of exploitation we see when Asian (like geishas) are used to sell products?

Also, there is a Japanese woman in the upper corner -- smiling down as if from Heaven. If only she could smile big!

I would say the Japanese are very good at smiling... especially for the show. Although western models are used a lot to sell products in Japan, to me it looked a bit unusual to have a western model on a product like this.
I can't see the kanji too well but it looks like the woman in the upper corner is a dentist who recommends this product...

Caution - prolonged use of this product may lead to a permanent smile, partial facial paralysis, and possibly cancer.
On a more (somewhat) serious note, the use of a Caucasian to illustrate the proper smile is odd as she was also the individual that needed to be trained. The smaller picture of the Asian woman apparently has no problem with the "proper" smile.

And the emo kids will wear them upside-down.

Joy, is there a way to get this shipped to the US? The reason I want to try it is because I've always wanted a smile that is created with braces. I've always been attracted to the smiles from post braces people. It seems as if the braces push the lip out more making it seem fuller and cause braces wearers to smile bigger to achieve a larger smile. I think that's the purpose of this product. I wouldn't wear it in public! Just at home. It's an experiment to see if it would give me the results Im looking for. Any help on getting this product to California??

If you've been around the fitness industry for any length of time, you know that the future of physical training is now. And you have a personal stake in that future, because right now you are probably in the beginnings of a new lifestyle-you are trying to create and sustain a healthy lifestyle, one that you will hopefully be able to enjoy for years to come. But you can't get this information from the trainers at the local gym, you need to get it from someone who knows more about the future of training than they do today. online personal trainer for women
