In a comment to another post, Max S. pointed out this video of a question-and-answer session where, when asked about policy toward Iran, John McCain makes a joke about the Beach Boys having a song called “Bomb Iran” and sings “bomb bomb bomb” to the tune of “Barbara Ann”:
I’m probably the only person left on earth who hadn’t already sseen it, but anyway. It might be useful for a discussion of militarization and/or foreign policy, or the ways in which we obscure the reality of war such that the idea of bombing “Iran” is separated from any acknowledgement that you’re talking about bombing actual people.
Thanks, Max!
UPDATE: In a comment, thoughtcounts z said that this was probably a reference to the Capital Steps‘ parody of the Beach Boys, which it very well may be–I’m apparently horribly out of touch with…well, everything. McCain said The Beach Boys, so I just took him at his word.

I thought this was a reference to the Capitol Steps song, a parody of the Beach Boys. They also did an Iraq version.

If elected (or however Presidents are selected these days) I guess he'll manage to fit invading Iran into the schedule and budget somewhere, depending on his priorities.
Maybe it'll be after the pie-in-the-sky moon base is built, our crumbling infrastructure is repaired (including highway bridges), Iraq is... uh, 'dealt with,' Afghanistan is secured, the housing crisis is eased, the economy is stabilized, something is done about healthcare (just kidding; nothing substantive is likely to happen there until after H5N1 has worked its magic), or after he cuts taxes as promised so as to pay for everything. I'm sure I left one or two hundred other things out of that list, but it's a nice summary.
I guess I should open up a munitions factory so at least I'll be able to make a decent living should McCain be elected, though I do use the term 'decent' loosely here.

That joke goes WAYYYYY back to the Carter years. I remember during the Iran hostage crisis kids in high school making that joke.
