It always irks me. I dont eat that much (and shouldnt really eat McDonalds anyways), but I get a kid meal when I go. They always ask "is it for a boy or a girl." I always reply "what are the toys?" then get the toy for the boy. Hmmm, do I want a pirate compass, or a princess mirror? what kind of messages are these toys sending?

This has bothered me since I worked at McDonalds in the late 80s. Most people at my work asked "girl or boy?" about the Happy Meal toys, and I always tried to ask "car or doll?" My kid likes McD's for the toys but won't really eat the food, so we don't get many happy meals, but they do still ask if we want boy or girl toys.

I'm 21 and not ashamed to say that my girlfriend has quite the impressivecollection of Batman, Lego, Transformers, etc. "boy" toys from McDonald's.
