Make what you will of this. The sexual availability of the female…um…wildlife, all of whom are sexy and sexualized and dancing with the one male, the bottles of Orangina erupting from between the female zebras’ legs, and the female octopus squeezing Orangina out of her boobs…there’s a lot to work with.
Gah.
Christine B. sent in a link to set of Orangina ads on Flickr:
There are quite a few others, but I’m sure you get the idea.

The females are herbivorous prey animals—deer, zebra, giraffes—while the males are carnivorous predators—bears and lions. Don't know what to make of the octopus; maybe it's some art director's idea of bi?

Ew. That is beyond unappetizing. I prefer my humanoid animals to have wacky adventures in the city or teaching kids about the value of friendship and counting - not assaulting my eyes with a striptease.

This ad not only proves that the narrative/visual tropes of pornography have become naturalized as a means of effective communication... but it takes those tropes and makes them creepier than they already were!
I wonder if the anthropomorphism is, ironically, a means by which the pornographic tropes can finally appear as strange and disconcerting as they truly are.

Oh. My. God. I was living in Paris when these ads/posters came out. You couldn't walk down the street, hop on the metro, or watch tv without being bombarded by these hypersexualized woodland creatures. Oh the flashbacks...

Anyone else notice that for the mostpart the males are literally predators, and the females prey animals?
Mihai — December 1, 2009
it reminded me of this commercial where a famous Romanian actor literally bites the head of his woman-cake partner:

similar degree of creepiness
(it's a sugar commercial)

You know, the peacocks are a little nonsensical. Well, extra nonsensical-- only peacocks (as opposed to peahens) have the fancy tail feathers, so they ought to be male. But then, I suppose only mammals have mammaries so biology has no place in the discussion.

So I know that "OMG Nightmare fuel!" is kind of an internet cliche at this point, but I really, truly did have a nightmare about these commercials last night, involving ostriches that were formed in the "sexy" style of the animals in this commercial. Yikes!
Sarah — December 2, 2009
What - what the heck did I just look at?
I have a serious qualm, by the way, with this whole trend of animals with human shaped bodies. There's a movie theater opener where I live, with cats for whatever reason. And a guy cat walks up to a girl cat, and the girl cat has hourglass curves.
She should have what, eight breasts? Six?
Same thing here with the deer having hourglass curves. And a bear with a SIX-PACK WHAT THE HOMINY IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD
Oh yeah, and uh, sexual availability of stripper octopi is, um, demoralizing. That too.

Wow...for one, that's a long commercial.
I took nothing of substance from this, but I will say Orangina is damn tasty stuff.
I wasn't sure if I was watching an advert or "MTV's Spring Break."
