The study revealed that \u201crequests from guests with distinctly African-American names are roughly 16% less likely to be accepted than identical guests with distinctively White names.\u201d<\/p>\n<h5>Unfortunately, racial discrimination based on names is nothing new.<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagobooth.edu\/faculty\/directory\/b\/marianne-bertrand\">Marianne Bertrand<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/scholar.harvard.edu\/sendhil\/home\">Sendhil Mullainathan<\/a>. 2004. <a href=\"http:\/\/public.econ.duke.edu\/~hf14\/teaching\/povertydisc\/readings\/bertrand-mullainathan2004.pdf\">\u201cAre Emily and Greg More Employable than Lakisha and Jamal? A Field Experiment on Labor Market Discrimination,\u201d<\/a> <em>The American Economic Review<\/em> 94(4): 991-1013.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Racialized housing discrimination also has a long history.
