Her hashtag <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/laraparker\/people-are-using-the-hashtag-medicatedandmighty-to-fight-the#.gwWMNExN7\">#medicatedandmighty<\/a> has inspired others who take prescription medication for depression, anxiety, and a host of other mental health needs to share their own photos and \u201ccome out.\u201d<\/p>\n<h5>What makes it possible for the #MedicatedAndMighty to fight back against stigma in mental illness? Since doctors and researchers do not have complete monopoly over medical knowledge, the lay person (non-medical person) plays a role in constructing the meaning of mental illness. Claims-makers and interested parties, not just doctors and scientists, create medical knowledge&#8212;what makes an illness \u201creal,\u201d and what constitutes its\u00a0symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.
