Photo by Canciller\u00eda del Ecuador, Flickr CC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela is doing what many learn at a young age not to do &#8212; being a copycat. \u00a0Since Hugo Chavez seceded power, Venezuela\u2019s current president lacks Chavez\u2019s beloved &#8220;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenleft.org.au\/content\/venezuela-real-meaning-chavismo\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chavismo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&#8221; \u00a0Maduro\u2019s own brand of charisma and populist reform has not connected with the people as he expected, which has led him to use more extreme political measures in the hopes of garnering respect. This has led to\u00a0unrest in Venezuela, highlighting the instability of charismatic-based politics.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Max Weber famously described in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Theory-Social-Economic-Organization\/dp\/1614272573\">theories of social and economic organization<\/a>, charismatic leaders are often able to create a unique bond with their citizens. But if that charisma fades, it can create instability.
