However, for individuals who practice polyamory, the holidays can be <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/polyamoryonpurpose.com\/holidays\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">difficult to navigate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, from having to attend several gatherings, to explaining multiple partners to family members. The term <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">polyamory<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is generally used to describe consensual, emotionally intimate relationships between more than two people, though it is not the only type of non-monogamy. While poly relationships have certainly existed for some time, media outlets recently started featuring <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/future\/story\/20160623-polyamorous-relationships-may-be-the-future-of-love\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">articles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the topic, including\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bustle.com\/articles\/161962-7-poly-terms-everyone-should-know-whether-youre-new-to-polyamory-or-monogamous\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">helpful terms<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and describing how poly relationships <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2014\/07\/multiple-lovers-no-jealousy\/374697\/?utm_content=bufferacd40&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">deal with jealousy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social scientists are particularly interested in the fluid nature of poly relationships and how those practicing polyamory define their identities and behaviors. Many people who practice polyamory emphasize love, intimacy, and friendship. Contrary to many monogamous folks, non-sexual relationships like friendships sometimes become more important than sexual relationships for poly folks.
