{"id":336,"date":"2008-11-09T03:30:29","date_gmt":"2008-11-09T08:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/thickculture\/?p=336"},"modified":"2008-11-09T18:15:25","modified_gmt":"2008-11-09T23:15:25","slug":"the-20-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/thickculture\/2008\/11\/09\/the-20-election\/","title":{"rendered":"The Web 2.0 Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/thickculture\/files\/2008\/11\/web20map.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-343\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/thickculture\/files\/2008\/11\/web20map-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" \/><\/a>Don has a thought-provoking post on the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/thickculture\/2008\/11\/07\/facebook-mass-interpersonal-persuasion-and-the-public-sphere\">Facebook<\/a>\u00a0in mass-interpersonal persuasion. \u00a0In a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.callutheran.edu\/calendar\/event\/1745\">post-lection analysis at CLU<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/thickculture\/author\/jose\/\"> Jos\u00e9<\/a>\u00a0brought up the idea of how Obama created what is tantamount to a social movement using web 2.0 tools. \u00a0I was reading a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/articles\/news\/campaign-2008\/2008\/11\/07\/in-obama-mccain-race-youtube-became-a-serious-battleground-for-presidential-politics.html?PageNr=1\">US News article on the use of YouTube<\/a>\u00a0in the 2008 campaign and couldn&#8217;t help but recall the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techpresident.com\/blog\/entry\/208\/on_hillary_1984_phil_de_vellis_speaks_to_youtube_and_politicstv\">ParkRidge47 spectacle<\/a> from early 2007 and the role of viral multimedia in politics and mass-interpersonal interaction. \u00a0In this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UtgfYMDHJfs\">video<\/a>, the creator, Phil de Vellis, talks about how politicians should inspire content and how his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6h3G-lMZxjo\">Vote Different mashup<\/a> went viral despite his posting anonymity.<\/p>\n<p>The rise of political video watching is evident from Pew Research Center figures, going from 24% in December of 2007 to 39% in\u00a0late October. \u00a0What I find interesting is how video is being used by both the public and the candidates. \u00a0The USNews article talks about how Obama&#8217;s campaign posted on YouTube a rebuttal to clips of Rev.
