Reference is to &quot;The Comeback&quot; episode (1997).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On my other blog, I did a post about <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rhizomicomm.blogspot.com\/2009\/12\/bete-noires-of-toronto-driving.html\">driving pet peeves and a close call I had on the mean streets of Toronto<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0I made a passing reference to the idea of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crowdsourcing\">&#8220;crowdsourcing&#8221;<\/a><\/strong> a database on boorish road behaviours. \u00a0Well, it turns out there&#8217;s a website that does just that, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zapatag.com\/\">Zapatag.com<\/a> {<a href=\"http:\/\/zapatag.wordpress.com\/\">blog<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/zapatag\">Twitter<\/a>}<\/strong>. \u00a0What is Zapatag? \u00a0According to their <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zapatag.com\/about.php\">&#8220;about us&#8221;<\/a><\/strong> page::<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Report bad drivers, track license plates, zap a tag and upgrade your commute. Compliment a carpooler. Lash a litterer. Tattle on a tailgater. Snap at a speeder. Bring accountability back to our streets the Web 2.0 way. Don&#8217;t get mad on the road. Get even online.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Technologically, it was <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/zapatag.wordpress.com\/2008\/12\/26\/twitterability\/\">inspired by Twitter<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: normal\">, but the more interesting implication on this blog is how such sites might affect us in the future. \u00a0What about issues of::<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Privacy. \u00a0Is it a breach of privacy to link licence plate numbers to alleged incidents?<\/li>\n<li>Defamation. \u00a0Is it defamation to link a vehicle to alleged bad\/illegal behaviour?<\/li>\n<li>Antisocial behaviours. \u00a0Will this lead to harassment, in terms of posting or retaliation for posting?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of our fellow bloggers had a disturbing incident on a Thousand Oaks, CA thoroughfare. \u00a0I thought a site like this might be useful in cataloguing habitual offenders, but the technology does enable issues like those three listed above and probably more. \u00a0Privacy has been declared dead thanks to the Internet for over a decade. \u00a0What about defending one&#8217;s &#8220;reputation&#8221; online? \u00a0Where are the lines drawn between transparency and defamatory statements? \u00a0With the Internet and the decline of privacy, will the definition of defamation change? \u00a0A whole post could be on the antisocial behaviours angle. \u00a0What springs to mind is the<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/31722986\/\"> cyberbullying mom case<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Invoking Bentham&#8217;s panopticon and doling out Foucauldian logics to each and every one of us {we all have the power of surveillance and voice with Web 2.0+}, will this lead to \u00fcbertransparency and more mindful actions -or- will it create a anarchic free-for-all of accusations and defamation?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Song:: <\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imeem.com\/artists\/garbage\/music\/crWIJ95z\/garbage-i-think-im-paranoid\/\">I Think Im Paranoid &#8211; Garbage<\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 300px\"><object classid=\"d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"300\" height=\"110\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/media.imeem.com\/m\/PX3UUs5OLA\/aus=false\/\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color:#E6E6E6;padding:1px\">\n<form style=\"margin:0;padding:0\" action=\"http:\/\/www.imeem.com\/embedsearch\/\" method=\"post\">\n<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Twitterversion:: <\/strong>@Zapatag allows crowdsourcing of bad driving behaviours.
