Jos\u00e9 blogged about protests over the Iranian elections<\/a> <\/strong>and this evening I noticed on Twitter<\/a><\/strong> that the hashtag “#CNNFail”<\/a><\/strong> was a trending topic::<\/p>\n

Another hashtag I saw was #MSMfail<\/a><\/strong> for mainstream media fail. \u00a0In the past, I’ve looked to CNN to have some coverage, but as one “tweet” noted, the switch from analog to digital TV was the big story::<\/p>\n

In Iran, Mir Hossein\u00a0Mousavi, the \u00a0reformist presidential candidate who ran against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been placed under house arrest, riots have erupted, and telephone service has been cut. \u00a0This is a big story. \u00a0Are there just interns at CNN headquarters in Atlanta this weekend? \u00a0Twitterers have posted coverage by various news agencies and MyNewsJunkie<\/a><\/strong> noted the CNN failure. \u00a0One tweet had a link to another social media site, Flickr, with a slideshow of images from Tehran<\/a><\/strong>::<\/p>\n

CNN seems desperate to connect with viewers seems to be dropping the ball here. \u00a0ElleMac<\/a><\/strong> just let me know that someone at CNN <\/a><\/strong>directed Twitterers to the CNN International page,<\/a><\/strong> which has coverage, but as of 2:22 EDT, CNN.com<\/a><\/strong> has nothing on the home page, but there is one article on the \u00a0CNN.com\/World<\/a><\/strong> tab. \u00a0On Twitter, CNN<\/a><\/strong> has nothing on Iran and CNNBrk<\/a><\/strong> has three tweets::<\/p>\n

Are Twitterers being too hard on CNN and the mainstream media -or- is this just the state of journalism? \u00a0Is this a case of CNN not really understanding what it means to truly engage in social media? \u00a0There is content at CNN International <\/a><\/strong>and from CNN Twitterers<\/strong><\/a>, so why not be responsive 24\/7? \u00a0It reminds me of an emerging social media adage I’ve been seeing. \u00a0You need to both shout & listen<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
