We have lots of sociological content that can be used in teaching, from new research coming out of journals to podcast interviews with sociologists. We strive to make our content clear, concise, and public-facing &#8212; perfect for undergraduates!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What kind of content do we have? (and how can you use it to teach?)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/trot\/\">There\u2019s Research on That!<\/a>\u201d &#8211; In this blog, we curate sociological research that speaks to things that are happening in the world.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Have students read \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/trot\/2019\/11\/07\/sayhername-and-black-womens-experiences-with-police\/\">#SayHerName and Black Women\u2019s Experiences with Police<\/a>\u201d for an overview of research on Black women\u2019s experiences with police, including distrust of police and the challenges that come with motherhood. Then, ask them to respond with a short post about the racialized and gendered challenges that lie ahead in developing police-community trust.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/discoveries\/\">Discoveries<\/a>\u201d &#8211; In this blog, we review new and exciting research coming out of peer-reviewed journals, vetted and summarized by our graduate editorial board.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Have students think about which groups are having more same-sex sex and register their hypotheses through an online poll (available in Zoom or Google Hangouts). Then have them read \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/discoveries\/2020\/03\/05\/who-is-having-more-same-sex-sex\/\">Who Is Having More Same-Sex Sex?<\/a>, a summary of new research in <em>Gender &amp; Society <\/em>that shows that younger people demonstrate more same-sex sexual behavior than older people, with a greater increase for women and black men. Finally, encourage them to explain why they think women are reporting more same-sex sex by collectively editing a set of google slides.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/teaching\/\">Teaching TSP<\/a>\u201d &#8211; We produce a variety of teaching-related posts, from classroom activities and assignments, to new research published on teaching and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Adapt the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/teaching\/2019\/12\/12\/teach-with-tsp-2019-winner-introduction-to-sociology-trot-project\/\">Introduction to Sociology TROT Project<\/a>\u201d to have students write their own post or outline based on \u201cThere\u2019s Research on That!\u201d articles.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Draw on tips from \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/teaching\/2016\/09\/20\/2284\/\">Teaching Writing with 5-Minute Workshops<\/a>\u201d to help students craft their sociological voice through writing.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/features\/\">Features<\/a>\u201d &#8211; Long-form articles meant to give a broad, social scientific view on an issue or topic without the usual academic jargon. This category includes white papers, special features, and roundtables. <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/roundtables\/\">Roundtables<\/a> bring together several sociologists and social scientists to give context to what\u2019s happening in the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Have students read \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/roundtables\/culture-of-poverty\/\">Re-evaluating the \u201cCulture of Poverty<\/a>,&#8221; then discuss how the sociologists interviewed might make sense of the economic inequalities exacerbated by the coronavirus. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/officehours\/\">Office Hours<\/a>\u201d &#8211; Podcast conversations with sociologists about their research, often from recently published books.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/officehours\/2017\/12\/01\/trevor-hoppe-on-punishing-disease\/\">Trevor Hoppe on Punishing Disease<\/a>\u201d<\/li><li> \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/officehours\/2015\/10\/08\/joanna-kempner-on-the-gender-politics-of-migraine\/\">Joanna Kempner on the Gender Politics of Migraine<\/a>\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/clippings\/\">Clippings<\/a>\u201d &#8211; When sociologists&#8217; work gets picked up by the news, we highlight the coverage. These articles emphasize the usefulness of sociological thinking for understanding real-world events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/clippings\/2018\/12\/31\/why-poor-parents-say-yes-to-junk-food\/\">Why Poor Parents Say \u201cYes\u201d to Junk Food<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/clippings\/2018\/04\/11\/no-immigrants-dont-cause-crime\/\">No, Immigrants Don\u2019t Cause Crime<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/editors\/\">Editors Desk<\/a>\u201d &#8211; Writing by our Editors in Chief, Doug Hartmann and Chris Uggen, as well as our weekly roundups where you can read what we\u2019ve published that week.
