Brownstein\u00a0 \u00a0and\u00a0Timothy M. Mulcahy, \u00a0co-authors of the Winter 2012 <em>Contexts<\/em>\u00a0feature, \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/contexts.org\/articles\/winter-2012\/home-cooking-marketing-meth\/\">Home Cooking: Marketing Meth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This podcast or feature article (check if your university library has access to <em>Contexts<\/em>)\u00a0would work well on its own in any criminal justice or deviance course. But what really struck me while listening to this podcast is how similar their findings are to the show\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amctv.com\/shows\/breaking-bad\">Breaking Bad<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/teaching\/files\/2012\/07\/2281555662_2fe29a4311_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"154\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>For those not familiar with the show,\u00a0<em>Breaking Bad\u00a0<\/em>tells the story of a square\u00a0high school chemistry teacher who, when diagnosed with lung cancer, \u00a0turns to a life of crime and begins to cook and sell meth to ensure his family&#8217;s financial security after he dies.<\/p>\n<p>The authors of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/contexts.org\/articles\/winter-2012\/home-cooking-marketing-meth\/\">Home Cooking: Marketing Meth<\/a>\u00a0set up an\u00a0interesting\u00a0sociological question of why meth markets are so different from other drug markets.\u00a0You could show an episode of the <em>Breaking Bad<\/em> in class and have a discussion about the social worlds of meth users and sellers compared to other drug markets.
