Made from the hull of a nuclear submarine.\u00a0 The crushing of cans on heads ensues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Over at <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.iblamethepatriarchy.com\/2009\/05\/11\/hugs-twisty-the-continuing-genderfication-of-america-and-the-introduction-of-the-ditwuss-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\">I Blame the Patriarchy<\/a>, a reader named Kate sent in a snapshot of some advertising for the product at the intersection of 6th and Anza in San Francisco:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9144 aligncenter\" title=\"3523488128_d3d6c0445e\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2009\/05\/3523488128_d3d6c0445e.jpg\" alt=\"3523488128_d3d6c0445e\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2009\/05\/3523488128_d3d6c0445e.jpg 400w, https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2009\/05\/3523488128_d3d6c0445e-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Slogans:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The first diet cola for men.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Save the calories for bacon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;0 calories. Great taste. Welded together.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No gut. All glory.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is, of course, all in jest. Yet is still re-affirms the idea that being this way is the epitome of manhood, if taken to a ridiculous extreme.\u00a0 Eh, I&#8217;ll just let <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.iblamethepatriarchy.com\/2009\/05\/11\/hugs-twisty-the-continuing-genderfication-of-america-and-the-introduction-of-the-ditwuss-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\">Twisty<\/a> say it. As usual, she says it better than I:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What\u2019s the big whoop? Well, you can\u2019t have a \u201csoda for men\u201d unless \u201cmen\u201d are considered a class unto themselves, defined in terms of the bacon-eating, welding, glorious nukular submarine-squashing aspirations that separate them from dainty vulnerable \u201cwomen.\u201d These ads are jokey, depicting average-looking dudes, but they tacitly allude to the noxious he-man\/fragile damsel dichotomy that\u2019s been chapping actual women\u2019s hides lo these many millennia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It also, of course, points to the fact that dieting <em>really<\/em> has been for women all along (see posts <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/05\/03\/slim-down-for-your-wedding-day\/\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/03\/04\/slimquick-ad-men-are-fat-and-happy-women-are-just-fat\/\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a> for examples).
