Here are some highlights from the\u00a0last year. Quite a trip down memory lane!<\/p>\n

- Sociological Images was\u00a0awarded this year’s\u00a0American Sociological Association\u2019s Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award<\/a>. We\u00a0would love to think that the blog eases\u00a0class prep a little and helps people get the best out of their students. If that’s what this award means, we’re over the moon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- I was honored\u00a0to be invited to talk about SocImages in a plenary speech at the Midwest Sociological Society<\/a>. Of course, there were lots of pictures. You’re welcome to view\u00a0the slideshow here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- W.W. Norton released my sociology of gender textbook<\/a>, with Myra Marx Ferree, and I worked up ALL\u00a0the social media (twitter<\/a>, facebook<\/a>,\u00a0pinterest<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
- \n
- Three new SocImages Collections. Two of them\u00a0are darkly and persistently timely:\u00a0police, black Americans, and U.S. society<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0white men\u2019s violence<\/a>. The third is now part of history:\u00a0fight for same-sex marriage<\/a>.\u00a0See them all on our Instructors Page<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- Rush Limbaugh covered a post about the\u00a0relationship between studying economics and being antisocial<\/a> and it sheds a scary light<\/a>\u00a0into the inner workings of his mind. (And I got called a “professorette”\u00a0so… like I said, all high kicks all the time.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- We got tumbld<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Wil Wheaton!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
- \n
- Two\u00a0new Pinterest pages:\u00a0pinkwashing<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0sexy what!?<\/a>, a collection\u00a0of totally random stuff being advertised as\u00a0weirdly and unnecessarily sexual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- Our social media accounts continue to grow like weeds:\u00a0thanks to the 74,000 of you on\u00a0facebook<\/a>, \u00a023,000 on\u00a0tumblr<\/a>,\u00a022,000 on\u00a0twitter<\/a>, and 14,000 on\u00a0pinterest<\/a>. \u00a0We do have fun and learn stuff, too!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
