Casey Foundation publishes an annual data book on the status of American children.\u00a0 Here are a few key quotes from\u00a0<a style=\"color: #004477;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aecf.org\/m\/resourcedoc\/aecf-2014kidscountdatabook-2014.pdf\">2014<\/a>\u00a0(all data refer to children 18 and under, unless otherwise specified):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nationally, 23 percent of children (16.4 million) lived in poor families in 2012, up from 19 percent in 2005 (13.4 million), representing an increase of 3 million more children in poverty.<\/li>\n<li>In 2012, three in 10 children (23.1 million) lived in families where no parent had full-time, year-round employment.
