In the penal codes (no pun intended), sodomy was sometimes defined as anal sex, sometimes as oral sex, and sometimes both. In some cases, the laws applied only to same sex partners, in other cases to any two partners (even husband and wife).<\/p>\n<p>This map (found <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Map_of_US_sodomy_laws.svg\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) shows when each state repealed its law:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2008\/12\/capture12.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5642\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2008\/12\/capture12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"278\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2003, the Supreme Court made all such laws unconstitutional.
