Below, I argue that this ad, far from promoting &#8220;decadence,&#8221; is actually a form of social control.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2013\/04\/126.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55003\" alt=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2013\/04\/126.jpg\" width=\"442\" height=\"605\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The words \u201c60 Calories of Denial\u201d imply that eating ice cream requires self-denial because a normal portion would be too high in calories.\u00a0 In contrast, the large bowl of Jell-O pudding is labeled \u201c60 Calories of Decadence.\u201d \u00a0The fine print specifies that the pudding is \u201cloved by lips and hips alike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To put it plainly, this ad for dessert tells women to be ashamed of wanting dessert.\u00a0 It says, \u201cYou are a woman, so you are stressed about calories (and you should be). But we\u2019re here to save the day.
