This image may not be safe for your workplace.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/blogger2wp\/Raceasian-ChineseLaundryRestuarant.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5180495381079882034\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/blogger2wp\/2Raceasian-ChineseLaundryRestuarant.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reappropriate.com\/?p=1105\">Reappropriate<\/a> offers a nice analysis. She writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;the ad relies on Orientalist fetishization to sell the store: the message of the ad is that the Asian food of the restaurant \u2014 like Asian women \u2014 are exotic and different, and will represent a new experience. Diners are urged by the ad, then, to come and consume the Eastern food much as they would hope to consume and conquer the Asian woman.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While Alvin at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hyphenmagazine.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/03\/offensive_new_a.html#more\">Hyphen<\/a> notes that &#8220;&#8230;the Chinese characters on her side are awkward translations that a native speaker wouldn&#8217;t use.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ad is extremely similar to the one for a <a href=\"http:\/\/sociologicalimages.blogspot.com\/2008\/01\/tao-nighclub-sexualized-asian-body.html\">restaurant\/nightclub in Las Vegas<\/a> posted by Gwen.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Penny R. for sending us this link!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This image, getting lots of negative attention in the blogosphere, is advertising a new Chinese restaurant in Rhode Island: Warning!
