{"id":51440,"date":"2012-09-29T11:00:10","date_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/?p=51440"},"modified":"2017-09-17T15:31:37","modified_gmt":"2017-09-17T20:31:37","slug":"boston-com-oktoberfest-slide-show-doesnt-objectify-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2012\/09\/29\/boston-com-oktoberfest-slide-show-doesnt-objectify-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Boston.com Oktoberfest Slide Show Doesn&#8217;t Objectify Women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2010 we posted about <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2010\/10\/03\/oktoberfest-and-the-male-gaze\/\">a Boston.com slide show celebrating Oktoberfest<\/a>. \u00a0We argued that, while many different types of men were included, the women pictured were overwhelmingly young and often had visible cleavage. \u00a0That is, the slideshow was an example of the <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2012\/07\/02\/sexual-objectification-part-1-what-is-it\/\">sexual objectification of women<\/a>. \u00a0In response, the slide show editor, Alan Taylor, sent us a note saying that, while he didn&#8217;t disagree and was sympathetic to our concern, he was limited by what photographs were available as well as their quality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/archive.boston.com\/bigpicture\/2012\/09\/oktoberfest_2012.html\">This year&#8217;s photos<\/a>, I noted pleasantly, had exactly zero gratuitous cleavage shots. \u00a0I thought I&#8217;d highlight it as an example of how not to sexually objectify women in an Oktoberfest slide show.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, look!
