But what is her platform?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/2.jpeg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/2-500x666.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"599\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Okay, so she&#8217;s not taking any strong stands on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stopthewaronwomen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">GOP&#8217;s War on Women&#8217;s reproductive rights<\/a>. But she did come up with a\u00a0totally awesome\u00a0nickname for her campaign (&#8220;Glam-paign&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, however, candidate Barbie will do something no other candidate can: she will bridge the racial divide in America by morphing herself into four different ethnicities!<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefrisky.com\/2012-04-09\/i-can-be-president-barbie-has-awesome-shoes-outfit-hair\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"4\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/41.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nYes, I get that this is a toy. And the Miss-America-style platitudes are to be expected from a company that wants to sell to both sides of the political divide.\u00a0But it&#8217;s a shame that girls don&#8217;t get a chance to see that women really can change the world.<\/p>\n<p>This week,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/story\/2012\/04\/07\/malawi-mutharika-banda.html\" target=\"_blank\">Malawi swore in Southern Africa&#8217;s first female head of state<\/a>. She wasn&#8217;t elected as such, but as Vice President took the position after President\u00a0Bingu wa Mutharika died in office. (A scenario that could have happened with Sarah Palin, had\u00a0John McCain won the Presidency.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_elected_or_appointed_female_heads_of_state\" target=\"_blank\">Other women currently heading countries are<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ellen Johnson Sirleaf: President of Liberia<\/li>\n<li>Doris Leuthard, Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, Simonetta Sommaruga: Members of the Swiss Federal Council, Switzerland<\/li>\n<li>Pratibha Patil: President of India<\/li>\n<li>Cristina Fern\u00e1ndez de Kirchner: President of Argentina<\/li>\n<li>Dalia Grybauskait\u0117: President of Lithuania<\/li>\n<li>Laura Chinchilla: President of Costa Rica<\/li>\n<li>Dilma Rousseff: President of Brazil<\/li>\n<li>Atifete Jahjaga: President of Kosovo<\/li>\n<li>Monique Ohsan Bellepeau: Acting President of\u00a0Mauritius<\/li>\n<li>Slavica \u0110uki\u0107 Dejanovi\u0107: Acting President of Serbia<\/li>\n<li>Angela Merkel \u2013 Chancellor of Germany<\/li>\n<li>Julia Gillard &#8211; PM of Australia<\/li>\n<li>Yingluck Shinawatra \u2013 PM of Thailand<\/li>\n<li>Helle Thorning-Schmidt \u2013 PM of Denmark<\/li>\n<li>Portia Simpson-Miller \u2013 PM of Jamaica<\/li>\n<li>Kamla Persad-Bissessar \u2013 PM of\u00a0Trinidad and Tobago<\/li>\n<li>J\u00f3hanna Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir \u2013 PM of Iceland (Appointed)<\/li>\n<li>Hasina Wazed \u2013 PM of Bangladesh<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The United States has yet to elect a woman to the position. And while Canada has had two appointed female Vice-Regents, we have yet to elect a woman to the Prime Minister&#8217;s Office. (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kim_Campbell\" target=\"_blank\">Kim Campbell<\/a>\u00a0was nominated for the position directly by her party.)<\/p>\n<p>So perhaps it&#8217;s time for Barbie, who has been in every federal election since 1992, to campaign a little harder.
