How about other places on the globe such as Japan? Christians are less\u00a0than 1% of the population of Japan. \u00a0Yet, because of globalization, geographic locations plays less and less of a role in defining culture. \u00a0Many people around the world now\u00a0consume the same food, clothing, music, movies, and technology.<\/p>\n<p>Global corporations play a role in transmitting culture from place to place. \u00a0Recently, American corporations in Japan have been trying to popularize and commercialize Easter. \u00a0Disney&#8217;s theme park in Tokyo, for example, has promoted Easter with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp\/event\/easter\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Disney\u00a0Easter\u00a0Wonderland<\/a> since 2010:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/12.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-45900\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/12-500x304.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"304\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/12-500x304.png 500w, https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/12-1024x623.png 1024w, https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/12.png 1144w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Likewise, beginning last year, Baskin Robbins has been promoting the holiday. \u00a0This year they have a month-long <a href=\"http:\/\/www.31ice.co.jp\/contents\/topics\/120307_01.html\" target=\"_blank\">Wonderful\u00a0Easter\u00a0Campaign<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/2.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-45901\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/2-500x346.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/2-500x346.png 500w, https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/2-1024x708.png 1024w, https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2012\/04\/2.png 1056w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It will be very interesting to see how\u00a0Easter\u00a0becomes part of Japanese culture. \u00a0When the Japanese adopted Valentine&#8217;s day, for example, they added their own twist. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2010\/02\/12\/celebrating-valentines-day-in-japan\/\"><em>Women<\/em> are expected to give chocolate to <em>men<\/em><\/a>;\u00a0men are supposed to return the favor by giving candy to women on March 14th, White Day. \u00a0I would not be surprised to find that Easter becomes popular in Japan, but celebrated with a twist\u00a0\u2013 a Japanese flavor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Sangyoub Park is an assistant\u00a0professor of sociology at Washburn University, where he teaches Social Demography, Generations in the U.S. and Sociology of East Asia.
