{"id":398,"date":"2011-06-27T10:13:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-27T15:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/02\/01\/ddt-is-good-for-me-e-e\/"},"modified":"2013-11-11T02:42:41","modified_gmt":"2013-11-11T07:42:41","slug":"ddt-is-good-for-me-e-e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2011\/06\/27\/ddt-is-good-for-me-e-e\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;DDT Is Good For Me-e-e!&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the 1940s and &#8217;50s dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, a synthetic\u00a0pesticide better known as DDT, was used to kill bugs that spread malaria and typhus in several parts of the world. \u00a0DDT was argued to be toxic to humans and the environment in the famous environmental opus, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Silent_spring.html?id=HeR1l0V0r54C\" target=\"_blank\">Silent Spring<\/a><\/em>. \u00a0It was banned by the U.S. government in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Before all that, though, it was sprayed in American neighborhoods to suppress insect populations. The new movie <em>Tree of Life<\/em> has a great scene re-enacting the way that children would frolick in the spray as the DDT trucks went by. We later discovered it to be an environmental toxin.
