Keep your eye out for posts or follow her on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/wendyphd\" target=\"_blank\">twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>News, Publications, and Appearances:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Rebecca Pardo and the team at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtv.ca\/news\/impact.jhtml\" target=\"_blank\">Impact<\/a>,\u00a0 I had the super fun experience of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2011\/09\/28\/college-kids-are-having-sex-just-not-as-much-as-you-might-think\/\" target=\"_blank\">talking about hook up culture on MTV Canada<\/a> last week. \u00a0That&#8217;s a first for me!<\/p>\n<p>I also got to play a part in a CNN story about\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/geekout.blogs.cnn.com\/2011\/08\/31\/nerds-and-hipsters-the-yin-and-yang-of-american-subcultures\/\" target=\"_blank\">the difference between nerds and hipsters<\/a>. Great idea for a story and well written by\u00a0Aaron Sagers.<\/p>\n<p>Contributor Caroline Heldman continues to report on the cheerleader who was forced to cheer for the man who she alleges sexually assaulted her. \u00a0After losing a court case against the school, she was required to pay the school&#8217;s $35,000 in legal fees. \u00a0An outcry led to an overturning of that requirement. \u00a0More at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/msmagazine.com\/blog\/blog\/2011\/09\/14\/a-mixed-victory-in-the-texas-cheerleader-rape-case\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Ms.<\/em> magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m looking forward to visiting Pacific Lutheran University this month (October 25-26). I&#8217;ll be talking about both\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lisa-wade.com\/publications\/#hook up culture\" target=\"_blank\">hook up culture<\/a> and my research about\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lisa-wade.com\/publications\/#U.S. discourse about female genital cutting\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. discourses on \u201cfemale genital mutilation.\u201d<\/a> I&#8217;d love to see you there!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also just\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lisa-wade.com\/public-speaking\/\" target=\"_blank\">scheduled talks<\/a> at the University of\u00a0Massachusetts\u00a0&#8211; Amherst and Harvard in March. \u00a0More on those later!<\/p>\n<p>We were also linked from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com\/2011\/09\/butter-vs-margarine.html\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Sullivan&#8217;s Daily Dish<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/feministing.com\/2011\/09\/28\/what-we-missed-504\/\" target=\"_blank\">Feministing<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefrisky.com\/post\/246-is-this-olympus-camera-ad-sexist\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Frisky<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/boingboing.net\/2011\/09\/16\/patriotic-advertising-selling-with-war.html?dlvrit=36761\" target=\"_blank\">BoingBoing<\/a> (as mentioned above). \u00a0We bask in the attention.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Progress on Course Guides:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sociology.buffalo.edu\/faculty_staff\/faculty\/trautner\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Nell Trautner<\/a> \u2014 University at Buffalo, SUNY \u2014 has developed a fantastic new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/course-guide-for-sociology-of-gender\/\" target=\"_blank\">Course Guide for instructors teaching Sociology of Gender<\/a>. We hope you think it\u2019s as awesome as we do!<\/p>\n<p>Gwen is also hard at work on her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/course-guide-for-introduction-to-sociology-by-gwen-sharp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Introduction to Sociology Course Guide<\/a> and I&#8217;m working on a Research Methods guide that&#8217;ll be ready soon.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;d like to collect as many Course Guides as we can, even different takes on the same course. \u00a0So, if you&#8217;re interested in writing on, please see our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/for-instructors\/\">Instructors Page<\/a>.
