{"id":33987,"date":"2011-04-01T13:57:26","date_gmt":"2011-04-01T18:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/?p=33987"},"modified":"2011-04-01T13:57:26","modified_gmt":"2011-04-01T18:57:26","slug":"sociological-images-update-for-march-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2011\/04\/01\/sociological-images-update-for-march-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Sociological Images Update for March 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEWS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have lots of fun stuff to report this month!<\/p>\n<p>First, please join us in thanking Jon Smajda for re-designing our website! \u00a0In addition to the aesthetic changes (always keeping us looking fresh, he is), he&#8217;s given us power over TABS. \u00a0We have lots of plans for these tabs, so keep an eye out and please be patient with our experimenting.<\/p>\n<p>Second, SocImages\u00a0sparked the outcry that led to Abercrombie Kids removing a product from their website. \u00a0Reader Allison K. sent in the tip, we put up <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2011\/03\/19\/push-up-bikini-tops-at-abercrombie-kids\/\">a short post about the push-up bikini tops and the sexualization of young girls (Abercrombie Kids is for ages 7-14)<\/a>, the story went viral, and Abercrombie eventually folded. \u00a0All in all, a fun week. Plus I had the distinct pleasure of being quoted using the phrase <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/live\/content\/business\/stories\/2011\/03\/29\/abercrombies-padded-bikini-for-preteens-stirs-up-fuss.html?sid=101\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;perverted uncle.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alongside the Abercrombie story, <a href=\"http:\/\/changemarketing.ca\/2011\/03\/07\/five-pointed-questions-dr-lisa-wade-dr-gwen-sharp-sociologcal-images\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gwen and I were interviewed by Tom Megginson for Change Marketing<\/a>, my <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2011\/02\/21\/are-we-born-gay-and-if-we-were-how-would-we-know\/\">discussion of the blog Born This Way<\/a> was picked up by <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Health\/born-childhood-photos-gay-adults\/story?id=12983710\" target=\"_blank\">ABC News<\/a>, and we received <a href=\"http:\/\/shinpaideshou.wordpress.com\/2011\/03\/07\/blog-review-sociological-images\/\" target=\"_blank\">a generous review at Shinpai Deshou<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, this is your monthly reminder that we&#8217;re on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/socimages\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/inbox\/?ref=mb#\/pages\/Sociological-Images-Seeing-Is-Believing\/8399768839?ref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and we&#8217;d be remiss if we didn&#8217;t tell you that Sociological Images has been purchased by AOL! \u00a0The editors of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Society Pages<\/a> have agreed to turn over editorial control to the mega-corporation in exchange for a principle-collapsing\u00a0$315 million dollars. \u00a0Gwen and I must admit that we&#8217;re a bit confused by the whole thing. \u00a0Somehow we thought our 3,419 free posts were for something bigger than Chris and Doug&#8217;s pocketbook. \u00a0But, looking back, we have to admit that we were, um, tragically and\u00a0enormously naive. \u00a0Hind-sight is 20\/20 I guess; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/lisa-wade\" target=\"_blank\">c&#8217;est la vie<\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEWS: We have lots of fun stuff to report this month!
