But representations of\u00a0men as childlike also contributes to the idea that men cannot be held responsible or accountable for bad behavior.\u00a0 As I have explained <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/05\/28\/the-relationship-between-patriarchy-and-the-denigration-of-men\/\" target=\"_self\">elsewhere on this blog<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So long as we buy into the idea that we can\u2019t expect men to be good partners or fathers, we will tolerate women\u2019s responsibility for the second shift and their placement on the mommy track at work.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This extends, too, to not coercing women sexually, not cheating, and being partners and lovers who give as much as they receive.<\/p>\n<p>This portrayal of men as children,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/06\/12\/top-10-worst-male-bashing-ads-images-of-masculinity\/\" target=\"_self\">idiots<\/a>, animals\u00a0 (see <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/04\/15\/evolve-trojan-ad\/\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/02\/16\/i-love-my-roomba-but\/\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a>), and <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/10\/04\/apes-in-disguise\/\" target=\"_self\">monkeys<\/a> perpetuates patriarchy, even as this perpetuation is disguised by the denigration of\u00a0men.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Both men and women should be troubled by representations like this.\u00a0 It is insulting to men, of course.
