The car is described with the words &#8220;luxury,&#8221; &#8220;fire,&#8221; &#8220;bold,&#8221; and &#8220;daring.&#8221; It is, indeed, &#8220;&#8230;capable of moving your soul&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><object width=\"480\" height=\"385\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/_b99jx9EVwI&amp;hl=en_US&amp;feature=player_embedded&amp;version=3\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>The idea that we are moved by this advertising might seem patently ridiculous.\u00a0 Phil Patton of the <em>New York Times<\/em>, however, <a href=\"http:\/\/query.nytimes.com\/gst\/fullpage.html?res=9F01E2DB1330F930A2575AC0A9629C8B63\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> the findings of a Mercedes\/Roper survey:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;36 percent of Americans said they loved their car and 23 percent considered their car their best friend. The poll found that 12 percent of respondents said their car understood them better than their significant other.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<span class=\"ft_signature\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/lisa-wade.com\/\">Lisa Wade, PhD<\/a> is an Associate Professor at Tulane University.
