I thought it nicely demonstrated both rules of femininity and the breaking of rules.\u00a0 Notice how all of the women, with the exception of Whoopi, have beautifully crossed legs aimed towards McCain so as to express interest.\u00a0 Whoopi, in contrast, is resisting conventional expectations by taking a masculine pose (ankle on knee) aimed away from McCain.\u00a0 (Of course, Whoopi as been seen taking controversial &#8220;positions&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/07\/20\/rather-real-discussion-about-race-on-the-view\/\" target=\"_self\">before<\/a>.)\u00a0 Finally, McCain himself appears to be failing to live up to normative standards of masculinity in matching the leg cross of his female hosts.\u00a0 (See the second video in this post about <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/06\/26\/how-to-do-masculinity\/\" target=\"_self\">anxiety over masculine leg crossing<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2008\/09\/the-view.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2827  aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2008\/09\/the-view.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"437\" height=\"380\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll grant that Whoopi doesn&#8217;t hold this pose:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2008\/09\/capture.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2828\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2008\/09\/capture.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"443\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Though she appears to be the only one who appears to pose according to comfort:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2008\/09\/capture2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2829\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2008\/09\/capture2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"443\" height=\"330\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Still stolen from videos at <a href=\"http:\/\/perezhilton.com\/2008-09-12-the-ladies-of-the-view-rip-into-john-mccain\">Perez<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a screen shot of McCain&#8217;s appearance on The View.
