Other than Pattinson, the most important part of the magazine is the discussion of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.details.com\/culture-trends\/critical-eye\/201003\/remasculated-man\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the remasculation of the American man<\/a>,&#8221; but that&#8217;s for another day. What struck me was the way that the photo shoot uses naked women as props for Pattinson&#8217;s masculine display. Not safe for work, so after the jump&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2010\/03\/18\/naked-women-as-props-in-details\/robert-pattinson-details-7\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21721\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21721\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2010\/03\/robert-pattinson-details-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"347\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not just that there are naked women as props or backdrop; it&#8217;s that in some cases, he seems utterly disinterested in them. The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.details.com\/celebrities-entertainment\/cover-stars\/201003\/twilight-star-actor-robert-pattinson-remember-me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> interview<\/a> with him may explain it, though&#8211;he is, apparently, &#8220;allergic to vagina.&#8221; It&#8217;s similar to Lisa&#8217;s post on the <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/10\/19\/white-and-male-privilege-by-panty-raid\/\">politics of disinterest<\/a>. It&#8217;s a double form of objectification: women&#8217;s naked bodies are used as stage decorations in masculine displays, and yet their presence is not even necessarily interesting to the male protagonist.<\/p>\n<span class=\"ft_signature\"><em>Gwen Sharp is an associate professor of sociology at Nevada State College.
