{"id":15288,"date":"2009-11-04T12:20:34","date_gmt":"2009-11-04T17:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/?p=15288"},"modified":"2012-02-20T20:56:04","modified_gmt":"2012-02-21T01:56:04","slug":"race-and-the-economic-downturn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/11\/04\/race-and-the-economic-downturn\/","title":{"rendered":"Race and the Economic Downturn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yvonne Liu, at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arc.org\/component\/option,com_frontpage\/Itemid,1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Applied Research Center<\/a>, told us about their report, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arc.org\/recession\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Race and Recession<\/em><\/a>, which includes a lot of useful information about the disparate effects of the economic crisis for different groups of Americans.<\/p>\n<p>While an overall unemployment rate of just under 10% is bad regardless, that statistics hides the fact that Latinos and African Americans are experiencing even higher levels (note: the government agencies that the information comes from didn&#8217;t provide breakdowns for Asians or Native Americans, so the report was unable to show comparisons for those groups):<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15291 aligncenter\" title=\"arc1\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2009\/11\/arc1-500x351.PNG\" alt=\"arc1\" width=\"480\" height=\"339\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a comment, thoughtcounts Z points out,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My immediate reaction&#8230;: the worst points (highest unemployment) on the &#8220;White&#8221;
