(<em>Gender &amp; Society<\/em>, 2009), I&#8217;d be happy to email you a copy.\u00a0 Just send us a note at socimages@thesocietypages.org.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FROM THE ARCHIVES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One year ago in September, we dissected <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/09\/08\/black-and-white-twins\/\" target=\"_self\">a news story about &#8220;black and white twins.&#8221;<\/a> The story reveals a great deal about how Americans think about race and so we decided to revive it for today.<\/p>\n<p>Two years ago in September, when we were but a wee blog, we posted our first PostSecret about <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2007\/09\/20\/the-burden-of-the-masculine-hierarchy\/\" target=\"_self\">the pressure one man feels to perform masculinity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEWLY ENRICHED POSTS <\/strong>(Look for what&#8217;s<strong> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>NEW!<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">)<\/span><\/span><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Race<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We found more examples of black models (Naomi Campbell again, Iman, and Grace Jones) being posed with or as animals and added them to <a href=\"..\/2009\/08\/19\/another-photoshoot-places-a-black-woman-among-animals\/\" target=\"_self\">our post on the topic<\/a> (not safe for work).\u00a0 Bri A. also sent in some photos of Bratz Nighty Night dolls; only the dark-skinned doll is in leopard print pajamas.<\/p>\n<p>We added an image that questions why we accept American Indian sports mascots when we&#8217;d surely express outrage if other minorities were used as mascots to our post on <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/09\/22\/some-native-american-sports-mascots\/\">Native American mascots<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discourse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Man poisons wife; Reuters says it was an act of love.\u00a0 Screenshot <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/04\/21\/victim-blaming-and-domestic-violence\/\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a> (scroll down).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gender and Symbols<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I snapped two pictures at the Dublin airport of <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/05\/18\/stick-figures-and-stick-figures-who-parent\/\" target=\"_self\">warning signs for moving sidewalks that, like an earlier example, mark stick figures as female as soon as a child is involved<\/a>.\u00a0 Also new to the same post, Emanuelle sent us an example of a sign showing a stick figure with a child&#8230; and the figure isn&#8217;t clearly marked as female.<\/p>\n<p>We also added a photograph to <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/08\/04\/does-this-sign-suprise-you\/\" target=\"_self\">our collection of traffic signals that feature a female instead of a male figure<\/a>.\u00a0 This one, from New Zealand, was spotted by Pharmacopaeia.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah D. sent in another example of <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/09\/16\/sugar-and-femininity\/\" target=\"_self\">the feminization of sugar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Socialization and Gendered Products<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We added commercials for two more toys that socialize girls into cooking and other housework to our post about the <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/02\/02\/hasbro-teachers-girls-to-be-good-housewives\/\">Hasbro Rose Petal cottage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The trailer for the movie Teenage Doll, another old movie about teens going crazy with lust, made a nice addition to our <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2008\/06\/03\/trailers-for-1960s-era-movies-about-slutty-teens\/\">post with other examples<\/a> on the same theme.<\/p>\n<p>As we often do, we have more examples of gendered kids&#8217; products: boys&#8217; and girls&#8217; versions of a book on &#8220;how to be the best at everything.&#8221; They make a nice pair with the girls&#8217; and boys&#8217; doodle books we posted <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/06\/04\/what-do-boys-and-girls-draw\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More <a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/01\/21\/pink-earplugs-for-your-beauty-sleep\/\">pointlessly gendered products!<\/a> Now sunscreen comes in a version just for girls (scroll all the way to the bottom of the post).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectification of Women<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Giorgos sent us another fantastic PETA ad, this one implying that you might get to see &#8220;explicit footage&#8221; of Pamela Anderson.
