It begins: &#8220;This summer women have a new body part to obsess about.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a gender-specific warning (men apparently need not worry about cankles) and passive language. &#8220;Women&#8221; simply &#8220;have&#8221; a new insecurity. It&#8217;s not as if, maybe, perhaps, the Wall Street Journal is <em>actively <\/em>telling women they <em>must <\/em>worry about cankles.<\/p>\n<p>They offered an illustration:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11211\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2009\/07\/HC-GN947_cankle_BV_20090722173307.gif\" alt=\"HC-GN947_cankle_BV_20090722173307\" width=\"124\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(As an aside, can you imagine being the illustrator who got this assignment?
