{"id":10563,"date":"2009-07-07T10:12:49","date_gmt":"2009-07-07T15:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/?p=10563"},"modified":"2012-10-19T01:45:32","modified_gmt":"2012-10-19T06:45:32","slug":"agenda-setting-and-obamas-socialist-leanings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/2009\/07\/07\/agenda-setting-and-obamas-socialist-leanings\/","title":{"rendered":"Agenda Setting And Obama&#8217;s Socialist Leanings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Conor Clarke, at the Atlantic, <a href=\"http:\/\/correspondents.theatlantic.com\/conor_clarke\/2009\/06\/what_socialism_looks_like.php\" target=\"_blank\">offered up a graphic<\/a> to call into question those who accuse Obama of being a socialist (<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.usatoday.com\/oped\/2009\/06\/dont-call-it-socialism.html\">Jonah Goldberg<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/blogs\/2009\/05\/29\/politics\/politicalhotsheet\/entry5048566.shtml\">Alabama Senator Richard Shelby<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanevents.com\/article.php?id=32095\">Phyllis Schlafly<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB124389683909574071.html\">Richard Viguerie<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com\/2009\/05\/20\/rnc-officially-condemns-dems-march-toward-socialism\/\">The Republican National Committee<\/a>, for example):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10566\" title=\"socialism20chart1\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2009\/07\/socialism20chart1.png\" alt=\"socialism20chart1\" width=\"579\" height=\"322\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2009\/07\/socialism20chart1.png 579w, https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/socimages\/files\/2009\/07\/socialism20chart1-300x166.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 579px) 100vw, 579px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to the graphic, Obama has nationalized 0.21% of the corporate and business assets since taking office.<\/p>\n<p>Clarke says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Socialism, like farenheit, comes in degrees. Sure, a government that nationalizes GM is &#8220;more socialist&#8221; than one that does not, even if it doesn&#8217;t mean we&#8217;re living &#8220;under socialism.&#8221; But differences of degree shouldn&#8217;t obscure differences of kind, and as Tim Fernholz <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prospect.org\/csnc\/blogs\/tapped_archive?month=06&amp;year=2009&amp;base_name=on_socialism_1\">says<\/a>, &#8220;it&#8217;s clear that putting the government in charge of private production is not the Obama administration&#8217;s guiding philosophy.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He adds:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If it were, 99.79% of the American corporate assets that existed at the start of the Obama administration would not remain in private hands. The differences of degree are so small that they aren&#8217;t worth mentioning.
