A new submission inspires me to re-post this great collection of public resistance to advertisements that objectify women.<\/em><\/p>\n

Adding commentary to the ubiquitous images that surround us can help us to notice, even if just temporarily, that our environment is toxic to our ability to think of all people as full and complete humans. \u00a0Here are some inspiring examples.<\/p>\n

1. \u00a0An unknown artist pastes the photoshop toolbar on H&M posters in Germany<\/a> (thanks Dmitriy T.C. and Alison M.).<\/p>\n

2. \u00a0Toban B. (a prolific SocImages contributor, by the way) sent us a set of photographs. \u00a0These were snapped in Seattle, Washington by Jonathan McIntosh:<\/p>\n

3. \u00a0Commentary on a Special K. ad in Dublin, sent in by Tara C. (Broadsheet<\/a>).<\/p>\n

4. \u00a0This one was written on by a teenage girl in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.\u00a0 It reads:\u00a0 “I’m sick of sexually tinted images.”<\/p>\n

5. \u00a0Tricia V. sent us an example of this kind of resistance in Haiti.\u00a0 The billboard below is in for a brand of beer called Prestige.\u00a0 Tricia writes:\u00a0 “The writing [along the bottom of] the billboard says “Ko O+ pa machandiz”\u00a0 which translates as ‘Women’s bodies are not merchandise.'”\u00a0 She was impressed at the effort exerted to climb up and write across a full-sized billboard.<\/p>\n
