{"id":518,"date":"2006-04-06T10:18:00","date_gmt":"2006-04-06T16:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/2006\/04\/06\/the-air-america-experience-2\/"},"modified":"2006-04-06T10:18:00","modified_gmt":"2006-04-06T16:18:00","slug":"the-air-america-experience-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/2006\/04\/06\/the-air-america-experience-2\/","title":{"rendered":"the air america experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/6608\/1089\/1600\/garcia.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/6608\/1089\/200\/garcia.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>since a few have asked, here are my top-8 shareable observations on my <em><a href=\"http:\/\/shows.airamericaradio.com\/alfrankenshow\/node\/4327\">al franken experience<\/a><\/em> (i&#8217;d stretch it to 10 but who really wants 20 percent more filler?).<\/p>\n<p>1. the overall vibe of the franken shop is friendly, busy, can-do, and semi-idealistic. you know how you get a gut sense about whether an organization (or academic department) is on the rise or the decline? this place felt like a small shop on the way up. either that, or the staff is just enjoying the ride while it lasts.<\/p>\n<p>2. about a half-dozen young people were working laptops when i arrived. some could have passed for sociology honors students. one helpfully found information on-the-fly just before we went on the air.<\/p>\n<p>3. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/cg\/amg.dll?p=amg&amp;token=ADFEAEE57C1BD24FAB7F20D1953841C79472E605DF50B49D11235956D5FB2445834373E549E981C8D9FF2BC82BDCB32ABB5F10D1CAEE50B0DE6C393987EBA1705843&amp;uid=CAW010604051444&amp;sql=11:99c8b5f4tsqh~T1\">jerry garcia<\/a>. lots of jerry garcia.<\/p>\n<p>4. lunchtime is lunchtime, even for a show that airs from 11-2. almost everybody was eating at their computers over the noon hour. the host popped out between breaks to grab a few bites too.<\/p>\n<p>5. they set mic levels by asking guests what they had for breakfast that morning. can you believe i was the first to say <em>frosted mini-wheats? <\/em>i&#8217;d imagine that lefties generally <em>say <\/em>that they<em> <\/em>breakfast on stuff like cruelty-free bagels and bulgar-wheat muffins. i&#8217;m glad i didn&#8217;t respond with the tasteless obscure sports reference that popped into my head (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainyquote.com\/quotes\/quotes\/m\/miketyson127958.html\"><em>mike tyson&#8217;s children<\/em><\/a>.
