{"id":212,"date":"2007-04-05T22:11:00","date_gmt":"2007-04-06T04:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/2007\/04\/05\/under-the-bridge-downtown-i-gave-my-life-away\/"},"modified":"2007-04-05T22:11:00","modified_gmt":"2007-04-06T04:11:00","slug":"under-the-bridge-downtown-i-gave-my-life-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/2007\/04\/05\/under-the-bridge-downtown-i-gave-my-life-away\/","title":{"rendered":"under the bridge downtown \/ i gave my life away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/files\/blogger_import\/227-bridge.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5050108555707893234\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/files\/blogger_import\/228-bridge.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>i just gave an upbeat star-spangled interview about florida&#8217;s move to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/04\/05\/us\/05cnd-florida.html?_r=1&amp;hp&amp;oref=slogin\">enfranchise<\/a> most former felons. as soon as i hung up the phone, however, <em>minor threat <\/em>sent word that the state has not <em>completely <\/em>abandoned the practice of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2007\/LAW\/04\/05\/bridge.sex.offenders\/\">dehumanizing former felons<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>you&#8217;ve really gotta see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/video\/player\/player.html?url=\/video\/us\/2007\/04\/05\/zarrella.sex.offenders.bridge.cnn\">video<\/a> to appreciate the story. like many places, miami-dade county has such restrictive rules for housing sex offenders that almost<em> anywhere<\/em> they live would violate the terms of their release. the shelters won&#8217;t take them and they can&#8217;t live anywhere near parks, schools, or daycare centers. yet these folks <em>can&#8217;t <\/em>be homeless either, since their release is conditional on <em>occupying a residence from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m<\/em>. according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/11346356\/detail.html#\">local story<\/a>, a PO gave one poor guy the following directions to his new residence: &#8220;Go over the bridge.
