{"id":1058,"date":"2009-11-29T17:05:09","date_gmt":"2009-11-29T23:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/?p=1058"},"modified":"2009-11-29T21:33:02","modified_gmt":"2009-11-30T03:33:02","slug":"four-officers-killed-in-washington-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/2009\/11\/29\/four-officers-killed-in-washington-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Officers Killed in Washington State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1059\" title=\"articleInline\" src=\"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/pubcrim\/files\/2009\/11\/articleInline.jpg\" alt=\"articleInline\" width=\"190\" height=\"217\" \/>Sad news from my hometown area &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/11\/30\/us\/30tacoma.html?hp\" target=\"_blank\"> four police officers were killed in an ambush attack<\/a> in a coffee shop outside of Tacoma, Washington.\u00a0 I just drove by that coffee shop yesterday; I can hardly imagine it as the site of such a gruesome attack.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenewstribune.com\/topstories\/story\/973791.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lakewood Police Department is only five years old<\/a>, and losing four of its members in a targeted attack must be devastating.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a reminder that police officers face danger &#8211; both obvious and hidden &#8211; every day.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve known officers who died in the line of duty, and some of my favorite students over the years aspire to and have gone on to become police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Washington Governor Chris Gregoire released the following statesment:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Our police put their lives on the line every day, and tragedies like this remind us of the risks they continually take to keep our communities safe.
