{"id":1919,"date":"2010-11-06T22:05:55","date_gmt":"2010-11-07T03:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlwpen.com\/?p=1919"},"modified":"2010-11-06T22:05:55","modified_gmt":"2010-11-07T03:05:55","slug":"mama-wpen-the-gender-of-halloween-redux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocietypages.org\/girlwpen\/2010\/11\/06\/mama-wpen-the-gender-of-halloween-redux\/","title":{"rendered":"MAMA W\/PEN: The Gender of Halloween, Redux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, my little <a href=\"http:\/\/girlwpen.com\/?p=1916\">dragon v. bee dilemma<\/a> got nothin&#8217; on this adorable, brave, and wonderfully-supported-by-his-mama five-year-old little boy from Kansas City who decided he wanted to be Daphne from Scooby Doo for Halloween.\u00a0 Heartfelt kudos to that mama, who defended his &#8212; and her &#8212; choice at her blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/nerdyapplebottom.com\/\">Nerdy Apple Bottom<\/a>, and on <a href=\"http:\/\/amfix.blogs.cnn.com\/2010\/11\/05\/preschool-boy-dressed-as-daphne-photo-goes-viral\/\">CNN.<\/a> The photo she took of her soon went viral, generating at least a million hits and more than 26,000 comments. Tara Parker-Pope wrote about it all yesterday in the NYTimes (<a href=\"http:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/05\/when-boys-dress-like-girls-for-halloween\/?hp\">&#8220;When Boys Dress Like Girls&#8221;<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Some spot-on, fierce words from the boy&#8217;s mama, to the moms who gave her &#8212; and him &#8212; trouble:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If you think that me allowing my son to be a female character for  Halloween is somehow going to \u2018make\u2019 him gay then you are an idiot.  Firstly, what a ridiculous concept. Secondly, if my son is gay, O.K., I  will love him no less.
