She teaches courses on sexuality, social psychology, deviance, gender and education.\u00a0 Her current research focuses on gender, youth, homophobia, sexuality and new media.<\/p>\n<p>Her book,\u00a0<i>Dude, You\u2019re\u00a0 a Fag:\u00a0 Masculinity and Sexuality in High School<\/i>, won the American Educational Research Association\u2019s 2007 Book of the Year Award as well as an honorable mention for the ASA\u2019s section on Sex and Gender\u2019s Distinguished Book Award. <i>Dude\u00a0<\/i>documents the relationship between homophobic harassment, heterosexism and masculinity in high school.\u00a0 In it CJ suggests ways we might begin to redefine gender norms that are damaging to both boys and girls.<\/p>\n<p>Before coming to University of Oregon, CJ taught at Colorado College. Previous to her time in Colorado, CJ spent two years working with the Digital Youth Project, part of the MacArthur Foundation\u2019s initiative in learning and new media.\u00a0 Along with her co-researchers and under the guidance of Mimi Ito, CJ co-authored\u00a0<i>Hanging Out, Messing Around and Geeking Out:\u00a0 Living and Learning with New Media<\/i>, the largest qualitative study of youth new media use to date.<\/p>\n<p>CJ\u2019s research has been featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Toronto Globe and Mail, American Sexuality Magazine and Inside Higher Ed.\u00a0 She has appeared in the Frontline documentary <i>Growing Up Online\u00a0<\/i>as well as on National Public Radio\u2019s <i>All Things Considered<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>She is currently conducting fieldwork for her new book on youth cultures of love and romance as well as continuing to publish about bullying, homophobia and gender. She is also co-editing a book with Professor Tristan Bridges entitled\u00a0<i>(Re)Theorizing Masculinities<\/i>.
